Transformed Lives

At 16, Chikondi was the leader of a notorious youth gang in Mzimba town. He was involved in theft, drug use, and violence. When Arise & Shine launched at his school, he initially mocked the participants. However, after being challenged to just read Luke chapter 15, something shifted in his heart.

Chikondi joined the quiz club reluctantly but soon became passionate about scripture. Within three months, he had memorized the entire book of Luke. Today, at 18, he leads a youth ministry reaching other at-risk youth in his community. He has led 12 of his former gang members to Christ and started a community garden project to provide food for vulnerable families.

Ekwendeni Community Day Secondary School had struggled with high dropout rates, teenage pregnancies, and substance abuse. When the Arise & Shine club started, only 12 students attended the first meeting. Today, over 200 students participate weekly—nearly half the student body.

The transformation has been remarkable. Teachers report students now resolve conflicts through prayer and biblical principles. Last term, students organized a "Clean Ekwendeni" campaign that removed trash from the entire town center. The school has seen a 40% increase in academic performance and a dramatic decrease in disciplinary cases. Three new churches have been planted in the community as a direct result of student evangelism.
